Harvey HELP Grant

Apply for Summer II funds today

The Communities Foundation of Texas Harvey HELP $25,000 Grant is designated to provide emergency aid funding to Lamar State College Port Arthur students financially impacted by Hurricane Harvey. An eligible student must be currently residing in or is from a Texas disaster-declared county. Two levels of funding are available: $500 will be awarded to qualifying full-time students (registered for more than 3 hours); $250 will be awarded to qualifying part-time students (3 hours or less).

Anyone can apply for the Harvey HELP Grant but in order to receive funding, students must be enrolled in the 2018 Summer II semester. Registration for Summer II is currently open with classes starting July 10. Funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eligiblity Criteria
  • The student will be required to provide documentation of emergency expenses.
  • The emergency must not have been caused by the student’s own negligence, lack of planning or money mismanagement.
  • Examples of documentation are:
    • Insurance claims with student’s name or the parent’s name if the property and/or vehicle is owned by the parent.
    • Letter from employer on company letterhead with official signature stating lost wages or no access to work.
    • FEMA letter documenting loss with the student’s name or the parent’s name if the student lives with their parent.
    • Pictures of damage will not be accepted as supporting documentation.
    • Applications submitted without supporting documentation will not be considered.
Important Information
  • The Dean of Student Services or designated appointee will review the application for approval.
  • Once a student has been approved, he or she may refuse the funds any time prior to disbursement.
  • Students will be informed of the status of their application via email and/or text message.
