|Course Description||Addresses recently identified current events, skills, knowledge and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to students' professional development. Course can be repeated to improve student proficiency.|

|Attendance Policy||Attendance is mandatory. You must remain in class for the full hour and 50 minutes until all 6 modules have been completed successfully.|
|Course Grading Scale||90 - 100 = A 80 - 89 = B 70 - 79 = C 60 - 69 = D Below 59 = F|
|Determination of Final Grade||There are 6 content modules for this course. Students will receive a grade for each content module. In order to receive a passing grade for the entire course, students must receive a passing grade of 3 or better on EVERY CONTENT MODULE. Many jobs across the nation require a 5 or 6 on each Work Skill content area. You should, therefore, strive to achieve a score or 5 or 6 on each module.|

This course uses the WIN Computerized Training modules. There are a total of 6 content modules that must be mastered in this course. In order to receive a passing grade for this course EVERY CONTENT MODULE MUST BE COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.
The following 3 content modules require that you pass the Work Keys exit exam for each module at a level 3 or higher to receive a passing grade for that module. You may complete the computerized portion of the test from any computer (see the web site listed on the first page of this syllabus under the Textbooks Required section). Feel free to work at home. Some of the sections are lengthy and may require more time than that allotted in the classroom. Remember that your goal is to review the material thoroughly so that you are comfortable with the information prior to taking the exit exam. The exit exam can be taken any time during the semester when the student feels that he/she has sufficiently reviewed the material (to be eligible to take the exam a student must have tested at a level 4 on the placement test or have completed all exercises and posttest through level 3). You may take the exit exam on each section twice. The exam questions are different each time you take it. If you do not make at least level 3 on any single exit exam, you must repeat the course. Grading is based on the achievement of at least level 3 in each skill category on the final exam. Scores for exit exams use the following scale: level 3 = 75, 4 = 85, 5 = 95, any student scoring above level 5 on the exam will receive 100 for that module.
Must be taken in this order:
1. Applied Math measures the skills necessary to apply mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques to work-related problems.
2. Locating Information refers to the skills used when working with workplace graphics. Examinees are asked to find information in a graphic or insert information into a graphic, compare, summarize, and analyze information found in related graphics.
3. Reading for information measures the skills used for reading and using written text in order to do a job. The written text includes memos, letters, directions, signs, notices, bulletins, policies, and regulations. Workplace communications are not necessarily well-written or targeted to the appropriate audience as they should be.
To receive a passing grade on the following 3 content modules the student must complete each module with a level 3 or higher. Scores for the modules will use the following scale: level 3 = 75, 4 = 85, 5 = 95, any student scoring above level 5 on the module will receive 100 for that module.
Again a student must successfully complete all modules to pass the course.
1. The Listening test measures the skills used when verbal information is received in the workplace and then relayed to another person. The test is administered via an audiotape that contains all directions and messages.
2. The Observation test measures the skills used when to pay attention to and remember work-related instructions, demonstrations, and procedures. There may be distractions or other information competing for the individual's attention.
3. The Writing portion of the test measures the skills used when writing messages that relay workplace information to others. The test is administered in audio format that contains all directions and messages. Examinees are placed in the role of employees who receive information from customers, co-workers, or suppliers and must communicate the information to someone else.

Computer-based workplace skill development in the areas of applied mathematics, listening, locating information, observation, reading for information, teamwork, and writing.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Document workplace skill levels; identify gaps in between individual skill levels and skill levels required by employers; utilize information from skills reports and job profiles to identify areas for further training; develop a portfolio for submission to specific companies to target job search efforts.

Some material in this course may be copyrighted. They may be used only for instructional purposes this semester,
by students enrolled in this course. These materials are being used fairly and legally.
No one may distribute or share these copyrighted materials in any medium or format with anyone outside this class,
including publishing essays with copyrighted material, uploading copyrighted material to Facebook or YouTube, or
painting or performing copyrighted material for public display.
Copyright violation is not the same thing as plagiarism. Plagiarism is intellectual dishonesty. Offenses of plagiarism result in lower grades or failing scores, and professors and the college strictly enforce plagiarism rules. There is never any acceptable use of plagiarism. Copyright violation is a legal offense, punishable by large fines and penalties.
Copyrighted material can be used if permission from the material’s creator is obtained, or if its use meets the standards of fair use in an educational setting. For example, a student can quote a line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet in a report without violating copyright but still be guilty of plagiarism if the quotation is not properly documented.

Assessment is a process by which LSCPA can help you learn better and gauge the level of progress you have made to
attain knowledge, skills, beliefs, and values. It also helps your professors understand how to improve teaching
and testing methods in your classes, and it helps each department understand and improve degree and certificate
Periodically LSC-PA will collect assessment data for research and reporting purposes, including statistical data and sometimes copies of your work. Be assured that all material the college uses for assessment purposes will be kept confidential. To ensure anonymity, your name will be removed from any material we use for assessment purposes, including video-recorded performances, speeches, and projects.
If you object to allowing LSC-PA to use your material for assessment purposes, submit a letter stating so to your professor by the 12th class day. You will still be required to participate in whatever assessments are being done; we just won’t use your data.
What’s the difference between assessment and grades? The grades you get on papers, projects, speeches, and assignments are specific types of focused assessment. LSC-PA’s assessment efforts include class grades, surveys, standardized tests, and other tools.
Federal privacy laws apply to college students. This means that college employees, including instructors, cannot
divulge information to third parties, including parents and legal guardians of students. Even if the students are
minors, information about their college work cannot be shared with anyone except in very limited circumstances.
Anyone requesting information about a student should be referred to the Registrar. Instructors will be notified in writing by that Office about what information may be released and to whom.
Please remember that releasing private information about a student, however innocuous it may seem, can be a violation of federal law, with very serious consequences.
Circumstances under which information may be released:
An adult student may submit, to the Registrar, a handwritten, signed note granting permission for release of
information. The note must specify what information may be divulged, and it must specify the name of the person
to whom the information may be given.
