The Little, Brown Handbook Newest edition.
|Attendance Policy||Attendance Policy: For M-W-F classes, you are allowed 4 free absences, and on T-Th classes you are allowed 3 free absences, so save them for when you really need them, like when your dog dies or you catch an obscure disease. Every absence after the maximum will equal minus 2 and three points on your final average. If you are late to class and I’ve already checked role, you are absent.|
|Determination of Final Grade||
Participation: 10% (this is largely subjective and based on my assessment.)
Homework: 30% (this consists of any assignment I give you for homework as well as the periodic reading quiz or reader response paper.)
Paper 1: 30% No secondary sources allowed, just your wits and the one primary source.*
Paper 2: 30% Complete research paper with secondary sources.*
*(Paper grades will consist in most part on three things: your ideas and arguments, your grammar, your MLA formatting and documentation—and the way you use sources to support your ideas about a literary work.) A paper that is all summary of the story or poem will be dealt with the appropriate boos and a low grade.
