Course TitleEngine Perform Analysis I
Course Description Theory, operation, diagnosis, and repair of basic engine dynamics, ignition systems and fuel delivery systems. Use of basic engine performance diagnostic equipment. May be taught manufacturer-specific.

Learning Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, using the proper safety practices and tools, the student will be able to correctly indentify, diagnose, and repair the components of electronic engine control.
Major Assignments Perform compression test, cylinder leakage test, vacuum system smoke test. Identify engine control system components, and and know what they do. Demonstrate proper use of scan tools. Demonstrate proper use of exhaust analyzer, and graphing tools.
Discussion Topics Engine performance systems, ignition system diagnosis, fuel injection service and diagnosis, intake and exhaust systems, emission control systems
Attendance Policy Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Five and six absences will result in grade demotion of one letter grade, seven to eight a second letter grade demotion, nine or more absences may result in failure of course.
Determination of Final Grade There are two parts to this class, theory and lab. The grade on the theory part will be 50% test scores, 25% final, 15% homework, and 10% class participation. There will be six chapter tests, six chapter homework assignments, and one final for this class. The lab part will be determined solely on the total of points obtained by work performed in lab. The points come from the labor guide of Shop Key, the software we use as the service manual, repair order writer, and labor guide. The labor hours Shop Key uses to define how long it takes to complete a certain job will be turned into points that will be used to obtain the shop grade. The final class grade will be determined by adding the totals of both the theory and lab scores, and dividing by two.

        Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom.

        Cell phones and/or pagers are allowed ONLY on vibrate mode. Leaving the classroom to answer a page or phone call may constitute an absence or a tardy.
