|Course Description||Introductory Algebra is the study of basic algebra concepts, covering real numbers, variable expressions, first degree equations and inequalities, linear functions and inequalities, systems of equations, polynomial operations, and factoring.|
Prerequisite: MATH 0312 or test recommendation.

•To remediate the student in mathematical skills as determined by standardized testing.
•To provide a mathematics background that the student will need to perform effectively in college-level math coursework.
All assignments will be completed using MyLabsPlus, an interactive software program, via the Internet. Assignments directly correlate to objectives covered in the textbook and must be completed, as assigned, after the objectives are covered in class. Due dates will be posted in MyLabsPlus and will NOT be extended. Points may be deducted for assignments that are submitted late. It is the student¡¦s responsibility to ensure that all assignments are submitted on time. If you do not have access to the internet at home you may use the open computer lab located at the library or the Learning Center. MyLabsPlus also provides supplemental instructional materials such as practice exercises, videos, animations, slide shows, and tutorials.
•Learning Center Lab
Students testing into any first-level developmental course or repeating a developmental course must be in remediation in the Learning Center for one hour per week. The LC requirement must be completed concurrently with the developmental math course, or a failing grade (DD¡¨ or ¡§F¡¨) will be issued for the course.
Chapter exams will be given online in the Learning Center at the end of each chapter or combined chapters. Students are required to have an active LamarPA account, MyLabsPlus access, photo ID, and pencil to test. A minimum score of 70% on all chapter homework is required prior to testing. Contact the instructor immediately if the testing arrangement conflicts with your schedule. Make-up exams will be given at the end of the semester after all other course requirements have been met, documentation has been provided, and has been approved by the instructor.
•Retesting will be available for students who put forth a reasonable effort towards the original exam as scheduled, have met all prerequisites, and received the approval of the instructor. There will be no retesting available for make-up exams.
•The instructor will average the highest test grade for each chapter and no exam grades will be dropped.
•Testing will be conducted in accordance with the operation standards and rules of the Learning Center. Exams will not be administered without proper identification or supplies. Exams will not be issued if the testing time conflicts with the student¡¦s math class, or the operational hours of the Learning Center.
The comprehensive final exam is given according to the LSC-PA schedule. There are no early, late or make-up final exam options and no retesting.
Study of the concepts of basic algebra. This includes real numbers, variable expressions, first-degree equations, linear functions, systems of linear equations, exponents, polynomials, and problem solving.
LSC-PA maintains attendance and participation requirements for all students enrolled in developmental courses. These requirements apply to all developmental students: THEA, non-THEA, and THEA-exempt. Use your allocated absences for ALL of your personal needs. Employment, personal appointments and continuing legal/medical appointments are not exemptions from these guidelines. Early departures, late arrivals, and leaving the classroom count as a tardy and will be deducted from the number of allocated absences.
If you are late, come in quietly and speak with the instructor after class. If you must leave early, inform the instructor prior to class. This time will be taken from your allocated absences. Early departures and/or late arrivals without notifying the instructor will result in a 50 minute absence penalty.
„¶After the number of allocated absences, each absence (75 minutes) will drop your end-of-course average by one letter grade. After three additional absences a grade of ¡§F¡¨ will be assigned.

¡´If a student does not pass (Course grade ¡§D¡¨ or ¡§F¡¨) a developmental course the student must be enrolled in EDUC 1300 and/or Learning Center Lab concurrently when the course is retaken.
