Course TitleSpreadsheets
Course Description Spreadsheet software for business applications.
Course Prerequisites POFI 1201 or keyboarding and mousing skills or consent of instructor.
Required Textbooks Microsoft Excel 2010 (Levels 1 and 2), Benchmark Series by Rutkosky, ISBN # 978-0-76383-771-6; Spreadsheets Project Book (purchased in the Dean’s office)

Supplies:

1 USB flash drive to copy master files for use at home

Note: if you use a flash drive, be sure that at least a portion of your flash drive is not encrypted. You will need to save all of your data to this unencrypted section of your data drive.

All students must purchase the textbook and must have Excel 2007 installed on a computer that they can use—either at home or on campus. Note: a valid Student ID is also required in order to use open lab facilities available on the campus and to gain Internet access for outside class assignments.

Learning Objectives The student will identify the components of a computer system; demonstrate basic understanding of commonly used applications; explain the impact of computers on society; explore computer careers; identify fundamental programming structures; and demonstrate proficiency in basic operating system functions.

Attendance Policy Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. See Additional CIS Class Policies below.

You should attend every class meeting. The instructor reserves the right to drop you from the class if you miss more than 6 hours of class.

You are allowed 3 absences per semester without a doctor’s excuse. After the 3rd absence, I will lower your final average for the class by 2 points for each absence.

Tardiness is not acceptable. You are required to be on time. Once the class is in progress, the instructor reserves the right to deny access to the classroom or impose other penalties.

Missed quizzes will each be recorded as a zero. No makeup quizzes will be given.

You are responsible for completing and submitting all assigned homework when due and for being prepared for each class meeting. This applies even if you were absent for the previous class meeting. No late homework assignment will be accepted.

Cell phones should be set to vibrate during class time. You may quietly leave the room to answer an important call if needed—be sure to return quietly as well. Cell phones may not be visible or answered during a testing period. Any violation of this rule will result in the student receiving a zero on the test.

Academic dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated.  Please consult the student handbook for consequences of academic dishonesty.  These policies will be strictly enforced.

 

 Facility  Policies

        No food, drinks, or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom.

        Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom.

        Cell phones and/or pagers are allowed ONLY on vibrate mode. Leaving the classroom to answer a page or phone call may constitute an absence or a tardy.
