Automotive Technology Program
The automotive repair career field has become increasingly high-tech over the years, and the industry promises to keep offering innovations that require technicians to upgrade their skills. To prepare students for the field’s immediate needs and to get them ready for continued learning experiences, Lamar State College-Port Arthur offers up-to-date courses that reflect the industry’s demands. Students may pursue a Level 1 Automotive Technology Certificate or a Level 1 Automotive Technician Certificate.
Students will receive both classroom instruction and hands-on experience. Students begin with courses in shop safety and introductory courses in electrical systems, brakes, engine repair, and suspension and steering. Other courses cover engine performance, transmissions and automotive electronics. The program is rounded out with an introduction to computers course. Courses focus on entry level skills, allowing early entry into the job market.
The LSC-PA Automotive Technology instructor holds Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
