Computer Information Systems Program
Students in the Computer Information Systems Program at Lamar State College-Port Arthur can earn either a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree or a one-year Technical Certificate of Completion. AAS degrees are offered in Network Specialist or Software Developer. Technical certificates are offered in Network Specialist and Computer Programmer.
Lamar State College-Port Arthur is a Microsoft IT Academy and a Local Cisco Networking Academy, allowing students to receive outstanding training in this growing career field.
The Network Specialist Program focuses on computer networking, computer hardware repair, and troubleshooting. Courses are designed to prepare students for professional certification, including Cisco Certified Networking Associate, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator and CompTIA A+.
The Software Developer associate degree program and the Computer Programmer technical certificate program provide fundamental programming background in using program languages of Microsoft's Visual Basic.NET and C++.
Further training is provided in webpage design, database management, mobile applications, and game development software. Students learn basic game design concepts and techniques that will enable them to develop and create a game from start to finish.. Emphasis will be place on designing and programming games using some of the game industry's leading game modeling and editing software engines, such as UNREAL Technology.
