Carl Richardson is a full time music instructor at Lamar State College Port Arthur and a professional bassist, guitarist and vocalist with sixteen years of experience in commercial styles. He studied at Lamar University Beaumont and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition. Mr. Richardson teaches courses in arranging and theory, songwriting and ear training along with applied lessons on bass and guitar. He is the director of the prestigious Lamar State College-Port Arthur "Section 51" touring band. Under his guidance, the division's music ensembles perform at festivals and high schools all over the Golden Triangle each semester.
Richardson has performed with Frankie Avalon, Barbara Lynn, Jimmy Simmons, Dickey Lee, and Doug Kershaw. Richardson has opened for national acts including Jerry Lee Lewis, James Brown, The Commodores, Hall and Oates, The Neville Brothers, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Los Lonely Boys, Kevin Fowler, Percy Sledge, Everclear, Stoney LaRue and Ricochet. Locally Richardson performs solo and with various groups including Champagne Room, the Stark Experiment, Guilty, and with the Ed Dix Jazz Quartet.
In addition to teaching privately on bass and guitar for over a decade, he filled the role of Performance Group Director at Tonalta School of Music in Port Neches, TX. Richardson is nearing completion of his debut acoustic album, featuring a number of original compositions due out in 2014.
