Adjunct Instructor of Percussion
William McQueen teaches applied percussion in the Commercial Music division and has made a career out of all things percussion for several years. The Houston-based percussionist remains one of the city's busiest musicians including performances at Reliant Stadium and in venues across Texas. In addition to his busy performance, recording and private teaching schedule, McQueen is an accomplished drum builder, providing custom snare drums and full kits to a number of Houston-based drummers and percussionists.
McQueen has served as a private school teacher and as clinician at state-level ensemble competitions. He currently performs with the Jimmy Simmons Quartet, Mark Towns, Key West, Yvonne Washington, Encourage, and Todd Howard and Tightrope; he has recorded with Michael Davis (Buddy Rich Big Band), Marvin Stamm (Stan Kenton), and Shelly Berg (Rolling Stones), among others.
McQueen attended the prestigious Skidmore Jazz Institute and Lamar University on scholarship. His friendly and accessible teaching style makes him an in-demand instructor and clinician. In addition to his duties in the Commercial Music division, McQueen teaches at Lamar University and at his own Houston-based private studio. Many of his former students are successful percussionists in major cities like Austin and Nashville.
