I am a native of Port Arthur, 1944 graduate of Thomas Jefferson Senior High School and a 1947 graduate of Lamar Junior College. A longtime friend of the Lamar Registrar, the late Celeste Kitchen, she was my second grade teacher at Groves Elementary. The late Dr. John Gray was also a personal friend, I was Editor of The Redbird and got to interview him for each issue. My career has been a great success because of my start at Lamar Junior College. President of the Student Body, Jack King and I as editor of The Red Bird spoke to the Texas Legislature to plead the case for Lamar to be evelated to a four year state college. Our fondest dreams have come true many times over. My wife Mary Nell and I are members of The Gulf Coast Museum and proud of the museum. We are also personal friends of Grace Snell and the late John Snell.I am proud hat in the Museum are several of my students while I taught Printing at TJHS. Paul Jorgenson, Frank Eidom, and Franck Chricco (sp?).I have been in printing since high school days and interested in Printing. I was wondering why we don't have anything abut the history of the printing industry in Port Arthur. I started my work in the industry with The White House Printers, owned and operataed By Carl and Stella White, (Their House is now a museum), others printers I worked for or remember were Muller Printing, Frank Chance and Lone Star Press. I even haf a small print shop in my garage. If you are interested in working on this project I have a lot of material I could contribute. As a member of your museum you know I am a museum person. I am a founding member of The Museum of Printing History here in Houston.Sorry didn't mean to be so long winded, but I am excited about Gulf Coast Museum. The degree I earned opened many employment doors for me. After graduation I continued my education with Lamar Beaumont working toward a (BAAS) Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science. My expected date of graduation is May of 2003. I hope to see all of my Lamar Alumni there. To the students contemplating attending Lamar, you will not be disappointed with this school. The faculty and administration is there to assist you with your needs. I encourage you to attend this fine college. Remember Lamar is a great place to begin a degree.
