PORT ARTHUR – The Student Government Association of Lamar State College-Port Arthur inducted its newest class of officers and senators during a recent ceremony.
Outgoing President Ronnie Thakkar inducted new President Andrea Torres, a Medical Office Administration major from Port Arthur. Also taking office during the ceremony were Vice President Viridiana Mendoza, a Medical Coding Specialist major from Port Arthur, and Secretary Nancy Figueroa, a Studio Arts major from Port Arthur.
The ceremony followed a week-long campaign and then a two-day voting period by students on the campus of Lamar State-Port Arthur. Students must be academically and morally sound before being allowed to take office.
Senators who joined the SGA during the annual ceremony were Abigail Ortiz, a Port Arthur Accounting major; Alondra Ceja, a Port Arthur Education major; Anastasia Gussman, a Nederland Academic Studies major; Raquel Ochoa, a Port Arthur Accounting major; and Yamarie Castro, a Port Arthur Academic Studies major.
The new student government leaders will serve a term spanning the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters.
