ARTICLE I

The official name of this organization shall be the Lamar State College Social Diversity Student Association (hereafter referred to as the association).

ARTICLE II

PURPOSE

The purpose of this organization shall be to introduce students at Lamar State College – Port Arthur to different cultures around the world and on campus, to give students of different cultures and opportunity to interact with each other in a social fashion, and to experience various cultures through food, music, film, arts and languages.

ARTICLE III

MEMBERSHIP

Section I:  All students shall be eligible for membership in the Association, regardless of their ethnic background.  All members must attend Lamar State College – Port Arthur at least part time and be in good standing, i.e.; not in violation of the Rules of Student Conduct as published in the Lamar State College – Port Arthur Student Handbook.

Section II:  In ordered to be regarded as regular members of the Association with full voting privileges, students must have made a verbal commitment to the organization and have their membership dues paid.

Section III:  In order to be a special member of the organization, without voting privileges, others such as faculty members who are not students, may attend and participate in the Association’s Benefits and Functions.  Alumni may not hold an Office of the Association, or have free transportation on LSC-PA vehicles to or from Events or Functions.

Section IV:  Members must always consider themselves as ambassadors of the Association and conduct themselves accordingly.  Members shall always make and effort to promote new membership.

ARTICLE IV

OFFICES OF THE ASSOCIATION

Section I:

The offices of the Association shall consist of:

The Office of the President of the Association.

The Office of the Vice-President of the Association.

The Office of the Secretary of the Association.

The Office of the Treasurer of the Association.

The Office of the Student Government Representative/ Public Relations of the Association.

The Office of the Sergeant at Arms of the Association.

The Office of the Historian of the Association.

Section II:

The officers of the Association shall be elected in the following manner; a simple majority vote (50%+1) of the membership present. The membership shall be notified of the voting meetings by the duly appointed officer(s) prior to and in ample time to attend said meetings. 

Section III:

The duties of the Offices of the Association shall be as follows:

The Office of the President:

A.              The President shall be in charge of the order of the meetings according to Robert’s Rules of Order.

B.              The President shall be responsible for informing officers of Officer’s Meetings, personally or by delegate.

C.              The President shall be in charge of making sure that membership is informed of all meetings, personally or by delegate.

D.              The President shall oversee committees formed for special projects to assure that progress is being made.

E.               It is the Presidents responsibility to the Association to act as Ambassador at all functions and where ever Association interests are involved.

F.               The President shall always encourage new membership.

G.              The Office of the President shall carry no more than one vote on any one subject being voted upon by the membership, i.e.; the quorum allowed by Article IV, Section II.

The Office of the Vice President:

A.              The Vice President shall be the primary second for any of the President’s duties that cannot be met by the President for whatever reason.

B.              The Vice President shall assist in all aspects of the business of the Association at Special Projects on and off campus.

C.              The Vice President shall always be considered and Ambassador of the Association and conduct him/her self accordingly.

D.              The Vice President shall encourage new membership.

E.               The Office of the Vice President shall carry no more than one vote on any one subject being voted upon by the membership, i.e.; the quorum allowed by Article IV, Section II.

The Office of the Secretary:

A.              The Secretary shall be in charge of keeping the minutes at all the meetings.

B.              The Secretary shall be in charge of the reading of the minutes for the previous membership meetings at the current membership meeting.

C.              The Secretary shall be the primary third for any of the above mentioned duties should the officers in charge of said duties be unable or unavailable for any reasons to fulfill said duties.

D.              The Secretary shall encourage new membership.

E.               The Office of the Secretary shall carry no more than one vote on any one subject being voted upon by the membership, i.e.; the quorum allowed by Article IV, Section II.

F.               The Secretary shall be considered an Ambassador of the Association at all times and conduct him/her self accordingly.

The Office of the Treasury:

A.              The Treasurer shall be responsible for the monetary interests of the Association in all Association businesses as per voted upon by the membership, i.e.; the quorum allowed in Article IV, Section II.

B.              The Treasurer shall be responsible for the maintenance of the Association Funds Account, and conduct Association business transactions according to membership vote.

C.              The Treasurer shall be in charge of the collection and the deposit of the membership dues for the semester.

D.              The Treasurer shall be responsible for the collection and the deposit into the Association Funds Account of any moneys raised at any functions/fund-raisers and events conducted or joined into bearing the name of the Association. There said funds shall remain until the use of such funds (of not already designated) can be voted on by membership, i.e.; per Article IV, Section II.

E.               The Treasurer shall be considered an Ambassador of the Association at all times and conduct him/her self accordingly.

F.               The Treasurer shall encourage new membership.

G.              The Office of the Treasury shall carry no more than one vote on any one subject being voted on by the membership, i.e.; per Article IV, Section II.

The Office of the Student Government Representative/Public Relations:

A.              The Student Government Representative shall represent the interests of the Association at the Student Government Meetings.

B.              The Student Government Representative shall represent the Association with the Press both on and off campus.

C.              The Student Government Representative shall be considered and Ambassador of the Association at all times and conduct him/her self accordingly.

D.              The Office of the Student Government Representative shall carry no more than one vote on any one subject being voted on by the membership, i.e.; per Article IV, Section II.

The Office of the Historian:

A.              The Historian of the Association shall gather, record, and catalog the events and general history of the Association for future members and alumni.

B.              The Historian of the Association shall always be considered an Ambassador of the Association and conduct him/her self accordingly.

C.              The Office of the Historian shall carry no more than one vote on any subject being voted on by the membership, i.e.; per Article IV, Section II.

The Office of the Sergeant at Arms:

A.              The Sergeant at Arms shall be in charge of the general security of the Association at functions, events, and where ever the situation should present it’s self.

B.              The Sergeant at Arms shall carry no more than one vote on any one subject being voted on by the membership, i.e.; Article IV, Section II.

C.              The Sergeant at Arms shall always be considered an Ambassador of the Association and conduct him/her self accordingly.

ARTICLE V

REQUIREMENTS FOR OFFICERS

The officers of the Social Diversity Student Association, to be eligible and to hold office, shall fulfill the requirements of the policy on eligibility for extracurricular activities of Lamar State College - Pt Arthur. Any student registered for at least six hours, not on disciplinary or scholastic probation, who is officially registered at L.S.C.-P.A., is eligible to become a candidate and /or serve in office, or to represent the Association / L.S.C.-P.A. in any extracurricular activity. Provided said student, has a G.P.A. of at least 2.0 for both the total of his/her collegiate studies, and that of the previous semester. For the purpose of eligibility, two (2) six (6) week summer terms may be counted as one (1) semester.

 ARTICLE VI

MEETINGS

Section I:

Regular membership meetings of the Association shall be on the first Wednesday at noon of each month during regular semesters, and to be announced during summer terms.

Section II:

Special meetings of the membership may be called by the President, Vice President, or the Faculty Sponsors, with ample time given to the membership to attend said Special meeting.

Section III:

Executive meetings of the officers and sponsors shall be held at least once a month to attend to the business of the Association. Additional meetings may be held, should the need arise.

Section IV:

The agenda at the regular membership meetings shall be as follows:

                             I.     Roll Call

                             II.    Reading of the minutes.

                             III.   Old business.

                             IV.   New business.

                             V.     Committee reports.

                             VI.    Presentation / Discussion.

                             VII.   Adjournment.

ARTICLE VII

AMENDMENTS

This Constitution may be amended at any time by a two thirds (2/3) vote of the active membership.
