Forwarding to an External Number

Before phone lines can be forwarded to external numbers, they must be authorized to forward. Supervisors must request this for their employees by submitting an IT Work Order and selecting Telephone/Telephone Maintenance as the category/subcategory.

Our phone system does not support remote forwarding. Forwarding must be done at the actual handset, in person.

If your phone only has one line (6xxx):

  1. Pick up the phone's handset or press the 6xxx button on your phone.
  2. Wait until you have a dial tone.
  3. Press #91 and then 9 and then the phone number to forward to (e.g., #919409nnnnnnn, #9191337nnnnnnn).
  4. Hang up. The 6xxx extension on your phone should show a rapidly flashing red light.
  5. To disable forwarding, repeat steps 1 and 2 and then press ##91.

If your phone has two lines (6xxx and 7xxx):

  1. Pick up the phone's handset and press the 6xxx button on the phone, or just press the 6xxx button on your phone.
  2. Wait until you have a dial tone.
  3. Press #91 and then 9 and then the phone number to forward to (e.g., #919409nnnnnnn, #9191337nnnnnnn).
  4. Hang up. The 6xxx extension on your phone should show a rapidly flashing red light.
  5. It is recommended that you forward the 7xxx extension to the 6xxx extension in order to receive both external and internal calls on the external phone you're forwarding to.
    1. Pick up the phone's handset and press the 7xxx button on the phone, or just press the 7xxx button on your phone.
    2. Wait until you have a dial tone.
    3. Press #91 and then your 6xxx extension.
    4. Hang up. The 7xxx extension on your phone should show a rapidly flashing red light.
    5. To disable forwarding, repeat steps a and b and then press ##91.
