08/28/2020 13:43 PM: 8/28/2020: Classes to resume September 8

While we are eager to return to classes as soon as possible, the reality of the aftermath of Hurricane Laura makes it clear that we must give our students, faculty and staff the opportunity to more fully recover from this devastating storm.

With this in mind, Lamar State College Port Arthur administrators have decided to resume classes on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

Staff is planning to return to campus Wednesday, September 2, to continue registering students for the Fall 2020 semester.

We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days. Watch for updates via your LSCPA email, the college’s social media accounts and website ( as well as local media outlets.

08/27/2020 13:11 PM: 8/27/2020: Classes to resume Monday, August 31

Lamar State College Port Arthur was very fortunate during Hurricane Laura, suffering very little damage to campus. Because of that, LSCPA is able to resume classes Monday, August 31.
This extra time will also allow students and their families the opportunity to have power and internet connections restored at home in the following days.

Late registration for the Fall 2020 semester will also take place starting Monday, August 31.

08/24/2020 13:44 PM: 8/24/2020: Campus closing starting Tuesday, August 25

Lamar State College Port Arthur will close its campus starting Tuesday, August 25, to allow students and the community to prepare for the impact of tropical storms Marco and Laura, which will affect the area in the coming days.
  • The campus will reopen when threats to the community no longer exist. Students, faculty and staff should monitor their email, the college’s website and social media accounts for regular updates.
  • Registration for the Fall 2020 semester will continue when the campus reopens.
  • Although all face-to-face classes are canceled starting August 25, online classes will continue to meet as long as conditions allow.
Hurricane Marco is expected to have minor impacts to campus on Tuesday evening with an increased chance of wind and rain. Tropical Storm Laura is predicted to arrive on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning as a hurricane near the Texas-Louisiana border.
