LSCPA, Dickert win top awards at Press Club contest

    Lamar State College Port Arthur grabbed three first-place awards and a second place award in the 2018 Excellence in Media contest, which held its awards banquet this past Friday.

    The college’s annual Report to the Community, produced by Public Information Coordinator Gerry L. Dickert and President Dr. Betty Reynard, placed first in the Newsletter category, while Dickert and photographer Mike White won first place for their work on the school's Softball Sophomore Posters from 2018. Dickert also won first place for his work on coordinating the marketing and public relations for the NJCAA Region 14 Softball Tournament, which was held at LSCPA in 2018. Dickert also placed second in the Internal Publications/Individual Story category for his profile of LSCPA Art Instructor Grace Megnet.

    Dickert joined Lamar State College Port Arthur in July 2011 after spending 25 years in the newspaper field. He has won several Press Club awards in the past while working for The Beaumont Enterprise, The Silsbee Bee, and The Beaumont Examiner. He also owns several state and national Associated Press Sports Editors contest awards for his work as a sports writer and sports editor at The Enterprise.
