Veteran's Affairs

Lamar State College-Port Arthur supports Veterans through the Financial Aid Office.  The office assists Veterans attending Lamar State College Port Arthur by answering questions concerning veteran educational benefits and Texas Hazlewood benefits. The office certifies enrollments for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and monitors veterans' degree plans and academic progress.
The application for VA educational benefits is completed online at https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/vonapp.

If approved for VA benefits the veteran will receive a letter from Veteran Affairs submit:

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship) provides Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to the children and surviving spouses of Service Members who died in the line of duty while on active duty after September 10, 2001. Eligible beneficiaries attending school may receive up to 36 months of benefits at the 100% level.  Children are eligible as of their 18th birthday (unless they have already graduated high school). A child may be married or over 23 and still be eligible, although their eligibility ends on their 33rd birthday. Spouses have 15 years from the date of death of the service member to use the benefit. Hazlewood Act

The Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified Veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books, or supply fees.
