Student Government Elections

Student Government Association elects new Officers and Senators in the spring semester. Officers and Senators will serve a one year term beginning May 1st to April 30th of the following year.

Officer Duties

Election Rules, 2024-2025 Academic Year

  1. Campaigning will be allowed on campus Monday, April 1, 2024, through Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
  2. Candidates must email Rezvan Khoshlessan the following upon their application submission:
    1. Interests/Student Involvement/Student Organizations.
    2. Reason for Running.
    3. Headshot. If you do not have a headshot, please have a photo taken of yourself with a light colored wall from shoulders up. 
  3. Candidate profiles will be posted on the Lamar State College Port Arthur website.
  4. Voting will take place online. Only current students with a valid college email address will have access to voting. 

Election Dates, 2024-2025 Academic Year

  • Friday, March 8, 2024- Sunday, March 31, 2024: Full-time students may file to run.
    • SGA Officer Applications for the 2024-2025 Academic Year
    • Applications must be submitted online at the link in the bullet above.
    • See Election Rules #2 above. Must be completed with application. 
    • Candidates applications will be verified by the SGA advisor. The advisor will contact the candidate once the application is approved or denied. 
  • Monday April 1, 2024:  Candidate campaign page will be launched on the school's website. 
  • Thursday, April 11, 2024 and ends on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 11:59pm: Voting will take place online. Only current students with a valid college email address will have access to voting. 

Qualifications to Run for Office, 2024-2025 Academic Year

  1. That you are a full-time student at the time you file to run.  Full-time means that you are taking a minimum of 12 hours, 9 of which must be on this campus.
  2. That you have at least a 2.50 GPA.
  3. That you are of “...good moral character as demonstrated by [your] standing in the community and on campus.”  This is determined through a felony records check, verification that you have no outstanding debt to the College, and verification that you are not currently on Disciplinary Probation with the College.
  4. Must be available to travel to leadership conferences and conventions in the Fall and Spring
*** If elected, your term lasts from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025.  All the above qualifications remain in effect while in office, with the one exception being that you do not have to be a full-time student in the summer session.***
