Program Description

This degree allows a student to complete, in approximately four semesters, the Field of Study Curriculum for Music, which is the set of lower-division courses (31 hours) that must be applied to the bachelor's degree with a major in Music (e.g.; performance, music education [instrumental or vocal], composition, etc.). These courses are the courses that all first and second year Music majors take at all two and four year institutions.

LSCPA consistently has one of the lowest tuition rates in the state of Texas and scholarships are available.

  1. Demonstrate a beginning understanding of Western European and American music history.
  2. Identify names of lines and spaces on treble and bass clefs, all printed note values, foundational music terms, and major key signatures.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to play the piano at a mid-level proficiency.
  4. Garner a basic understanding of the music education profession.
  5. Demonstrate appropriate performance practice for a variety of styles of music.
  6. Demonstrate appropriate techniques for performing on the major instrument.

The Sam and Linda Monroe Performing Arts Center features a 400 seat main stage theatre for concerts and musicals, a Blackbox Theater for recitals and small musicals, and a theater lobby which doubles as a beautiful and acoustically vibrant recital hall.

The LSCPA Music programs features Yamaha pianos for performances, ensemble rehearsals, and private lessons.
