Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Please take time this month to learn about sexual assault prevention and supporting victims of sexual assault by participating in the activities available at LSCPA and online.
The theme for SAAM 2023 is Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts every person in the community. SAAM aims to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities about how to prevent it.

- More than 4 in 5 American Indian and Alaska Native women (84.3%) have experienced violence in their lifetime.
- 1 in 3 Hispanic women (34.8%) reported unwanted sexual contact in their lifetime.
- 32.9% of adults with intellectual disabilities have experienced sexual violence.
- 47% of all transgender people have been sexually assaulted at some point in their lives.

- In the United States, someone is sexually assaulted every 68 seconds.
- Only 25 out of every 1,000 rapists will end up in prison.
- 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men have been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime.
- 55% of sexual assaults occur at or near the victim's home.
