    Athletics wins $2,000 grant to improve softball complex

    Lamar State College Port Arthur athletics took another step closer to its goals of creating a first-class college softball complex after receiving a $2,000 grant from the Foundation for Southeast Texas.
     

    The college, which participates in NJCAA Division I softball, won the competitive grant from the Foundation and was presented with a check during a recent ceremony.
     

    According to LSCPA Director of Athletics Scott Street, the funds will go to the construction of a concession stand at Martin Field on Lakeshore Drive, home of the Seahawks softball team.
     

    “This grant helps us continue our efforts to provide a first-class experience for our athletes and our fans as well,” he said.
     

    The Foundation for Southeast Texas encourages philanthropic gifts and assists donors in achieving their charitable goals through the professional management and considered and caring distribution of such gifts. The Foundation addresses the areas of civic and social concerns, including arts and culture, preservation, education and scholarships, health, social services, youth and elderly, economic development and civic affairs.
     

    “The Foundation for Southeast Texas responds to continuously changing and emerging needs, and is focused on making a positive difference in the quality of life in the area,” Mellie Bevilacqua, executive director of The Foundation, said. “The Foundation for Southeast Texas is proud to be a supporter of Lamar State College Port Arthur.”
