Gale Foundation donates $125,000 for scholarships

Lamar State College Port Arthur is the recipient of $125,000 from the Gale Foundation to fund scholarships for students seeking degrees or certificates in one of the 20 career technical areas offered by the college.

The donation will fund 50 scholarships of $2,500 with 25 awarded each Spring and Fall semester, covering tuition, fees and books.

“We are grateful to the Gale Foundation for their contribution to the future of our students,” LSCPA President Dr. Betty Reynard said. “The Foundation understands the critical need for technical education and the graduates of those programs to go out and help fill the much-needed career openings in Port Arthur, Southeast Texas, the state and the nation.

“This money will go a long way in helping our students achieve their educational and career goals,” she said.

Rebecca “Becky” Speed Gale, a former Beaumont resident and philanthropist who passed away at her home in Alabama at the age of 80 in January 2020, was an educator. She and her late husband Edwin established the Gale Foundation to fund educational efforts, medical research, Jewish community initiatives and programs to assist the needy.

Students interested in applying for the Gale Foundation Scholarship can do so through the LSCPA Scholarship general application page on its website, www.lamarpa.edu/scholarships.
In addition to the scholarships provided by the Gale Foundation, an additional $500 incentive is being provided to any recipient who successfully completes their course of study and receives their technical certificate within 12 months after first enrolling in the LSCPA course of study for that technical certificate.
