Cosmetology Program
The Cosmetology Program at Lamar State College-Port Arthur prepares students for a career as a cosmetology professional. The recommended courses of study are designed to meet licensure requirements established by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation. Graduates will accrue the required number of semester credit hours in training and will have the knowledge and skills needed to pass the Texas cosmetology licensing examination.
Students will receive training in the LSC-PA Cosmetology Center, a state-of-the-art facility that includes classrooms, labs and the support facilities necessary to operate a professional salon. Customers are accepted at certain times of the week to supply the hands-on experience required for licensing in Texas.
Students in the Cosmetology Program at Lamar State College-Port Arthur can earn a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree or a one-year Certificate in the following:

Cosmetology Registration Fee
All Cosmetology Students must be registered with the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation before the first-class day. The registration fee is $25 and can be paid at the business office or with a debit card. Bring a copy of your receipt to orientation. Transfer Cosmetology students’ fee is waived, but a copy of your cosmetology transcript is needed.
Orientation

Pictures
TDLR mandates a current picture on every student registered in a cosmetology program. This picture will be placed on your cosmetology permit and folder. Email one picture or bring two pictures to orientation.
Immunization Requirements:
- Tb Skin Test (within last 6 months) Submit this information during orientation, or no later than the first-class day.
- Bacterial Meningitis (LSCPA requirement)—must be taken 10 days prior to the first-class day and submitted to the admissions department at LSCPA.

Dress code
Each student is required to adhere to the dress code policy set by the LSCPA Cosmetology Program and the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation. Every student must be in uniform BEFORE clocking in and remain in uniform at all times.
The requirements are as follows:
- Lab Jacket - Black
- Unisex Scrub Pants - Black
- Unisex Scrub Top - Black
- Hair must be neat and presentable daily. (You are your biggest advertisement.)
- Nails: As a safety precaution, all nails should be of average length. Nails may not be longer than the end of the finger.
- Tennis shoes or workforce shoes
Lamar State College-Port Arthur mandates the completion and passing of all Cosmetology courses with a “C” or better to attain the knowledge and skills needed to pass your state board exam.
Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation mandates the completion and passing of all the registered modules (courses) to be eligible to take the state board exam.
Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation mandates documentation is available for the State Inspector showing attendance, online assignments, and practical skills.
(You must be in attendance to receive credit for lab assignments).
